SAFETY BULLETIN

EXCEL MODULAR SCAFFOLD

Recently during a routine material inspection one of our Excel scaffold customers discovered several Intermediate Horizontal Adapter (IHA) components where the cup attachment node points were tacked only and not welded. Please advise your employees to continue their standard scaffold material inspections during your next regular toolbox safety meeting.

Make sure to inspect before usage all IHA components to insure the two half cup assemblies are completely welded, not just tacked.

When installed in accordance with the technical manual requirements there is no immediate safety hazard associated with a failure of this particular IHA component. You should go ahead and inspect these in-stock items to insure they are fully welded, not just tacked.

If you identify any IHA’s with missing welds, pull them out of service, scrap them from your Excel scaffold inventory and contact us directly in Walker, LA so that we can replace them at no cost.

Section R, “Scaffold Inspection Guidelines”, of the current Excel Technical Specification Manual specifically addresses these IHA inspection requirements along with the inspections criteria for other Excel components where welds are a safety concern.
